Anti -corruption activist had threatened the government of holding a protest at Jantar –Mantar if their demand of a strong Lokpal bill is not met with.
74 years old Gandhian who pivoted the anti-corruption movement in the country, visited Gandhi Samadhi at Raj Ghat early this morning before starting his day long fast at Jantar- Mantar. Team Anna who spearheaded the movement for a strong anti-corruption bill in the country was left completely disappointed by the parliamentary draft of Lokpal bill that was laid in the house on Friday.
Anna who is all set to start the third part of his protest against government’s lokpal draft today had accused the government of backstabbing and labeled the draft as toothless with no substantial power. Across the country supporters of Anna has gathered to protest against the government’s draft of Lokpal bill.
Anna who had been involved with the government in drafting the bill along with his core committee members but the joint committee met with little success as government downplayed all the demands raised by team Anna in the joint drafting committee. Anna Hazare in August this year had hold a 13 day long fast to pursue the government to bring out a strong legislation against corruption and had broken his fast only after Prime Minister committed him for a strong legislation.
Meanwhile congress has slammed the anti-corruption crusader for provoking violence. An all-party meeting has been called by the government to discuss the situation.
